This exhibition presents the eventful history of what is known today as Berghotel
Rudolfshütte, from it’s early days in 1874 as a simple bothy (a mountain
hut to give shelter to people), to the current day modern mountain

In between these years, there have been many stages of expansion and constructional
changes to the original basic building, under the previous owners -
Alpenvereinssektion Austria und Österreichischer Alpenverein (Alpine Club
Section Austria and Austrian Alpine Club). They undertook the necessary resiting
of the Rudolfshütte as a result of the erection of the Weißsee dam
wall, and finally, the modernisation and hand over to the tourism entrepreneur,
Dr Wilfried Holleis in 2004.

The history of the Rudolfshütte reflects the development from the early days
of limited opportunities for a few people to undertake mountain climbing in
the 19th century, to the present extensive scope for tourists to enjoy this well
developed high alpine region of the Hohe Tauern.
